Scat Cat Records

The idea for Scat Cat Records was originally the brainchild of Kyle Keener and Polly Harrison of Small World fame.  A major presence in the local jazz scene since the early 1970s, Kyle organized a loose federation of local San Antonio jazz musicians who often played together into an enthusiastic group dedicated to promoting the art form.

In 1997, he approached Anthony Armstrong, Small World's primary booking agent to produce their next recording project.   Anthony Armstrong's agency agreed with the intent to provide platform for local artists to record.  The primary goal was to produce a compact disc to promote and book their acts.  The first project was "Jazz is Alive in San Antonio," a compilation including all of the best jazz groups in town.

Later that year, Small World's "Seasons of the Heart" was completed.  Demand was brisk and a second "printing" was necessary.  Scat Cat productions was off and running.

At an I.A.J.E. conference in New Orleans, Anthony and Kyle agreed that there was need for broader distribution of products by local jazz artists.  As a result of that meeting, Anthony offered to establish and manage a web site, and Scat Cat Records was born.

"It is Scat Cat's goal to offer you the best service and products available by independent artists from the San Antonio, South Texas Area."
